Favorite Verse: Ecclesiastes 5:18,20 “Behold, what I have seen to be good and fitting is to eat and drink and find enjoyment in all the toil with which one toils under the sun the few days of his life that God has given him, for this is his lot … For he will not much remember the days of his life because God keeps him occupied with joy in his heart.”
My Testimony: My first time being introduced to Christ was when my step mom invited my dad and I to go to her church with her. We continued going for several weeks and I started to really enjoy it there. I joined the worship team and their youth group, and I would've said that I was a Christian. However, I thought at the time that doing good things like praying, reading my Bible, and singing on the worship team was all I had to do to be saved. Then in early high school, my dad stopped going to this church and I lost the community I had, which caused me to really struggle in my faith. I constantly felt like I was crawling uphill and never felt like I was doing enough. I tried so hard to do the right things and constantly failed, which left me feeling frustrated and often hopeless. I got so discouraged from this that I decided once I got into college that I would try to live the “college life” by doing the things everyone else was doing, like going to parties and drinking. Then one day I met two older girls from Campus Outreach at the volleyball courts on campus. They got my number and that night they invited me to get ice cream, which really surprised me since I had just met them. I started coming with them to all the events CO put on, and we even started an investigative Bible study together. Then I decided to go to Orlando Project the summer of my freshman year. It was during a one-on-one with one of the servant leaders that she told me God's love is not something we can earn and isn’t something we deserve, but that it is freely given to us through faith in Christ Jesus. She said that Jesus knew every bad thing we would ever do and he still went to the cross to take our sin unto himself because he loves us, which really stuck out to me. As Isaiah 64:6 says, even our most righteous deeds are like filthy rags to God. Hearing this verse made me realize that we can’t do it on our own. And we don’t have to! In the last week of Project, I gave my life to Christ, and ever since, I continue to experience so much freedom that I don’t have to do it on my own, but that I can rely on God to be my strength.
