Favorite Verse: ”Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.“ Hebrews 12:1-2
My Testimony: I used to think being a Christian meant I believed there was a God and that Jesus truly did exist as a real person in history, and if I tried my best to be an overall morally good person, then I was a "good" Christian. I found my best moral efforts futile as I failed so often, but I continued further in this way for many years, until the moment I unexpectedly came to have my own true relationship with Jesus. While I was on a mission trip, I remember looking around a room full of so many people who also called themselves Christians, and I recognized that there was an unmistakeable difference in what it looked like to simply know about Jesus and what it looked like to have a life fully surrendered to Jesus. Soon after, the gospel that I had heard many times before finally dropped from my head into my heart, as God opened my eyes to the weight of my sin and showed me that because He loved me so fully, I was able to be forgiven when Jesus took my place and died on the cross for the penalty of my sin, was raised to life, and secured my soul eternally with Him. I saw the hope and the joy and the fullness of life to be had in drawing near to Jesus and pursuing him, the way that He wholeheartedly had pursued me. So I asked God to forgive me for all of my sin, to take me as I am, and to have His way with my heart and my life. I have been forever changed, and now live by faith, walking in the Spirit, with a purpose to love and glorify God.
Why I want to go to CCP: I'm looking forward to experiencing how God moves in other parts of the world and seeing college students grow devoted to Christ above all else. I'm also excited to serve the team that has been faithfully laboring on the campus in Cape Town, and I can't wait to experience a new culture and place all while engaging meaningfully with the students there for the sake of the gospel!
